Science & Technology

Marine science has its roots on the Cape through the oldest marine research institution in the nation, the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) at Woods Hole.  Marine-related research and technological activities on the Cape have benefited from easy access to a wide variety of coastal and ocean environments.  Today, organizations such as the Center for Coastal StudiesCape Cod Fishermen’s Alliance and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute are anchors for a vibrant marine/tech industry here. Investment agencies like The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) support innovation, research, development and commercialization, to ensure continued growth in the life sciences.

A cluster of hardware and software entrepreneurs have called Cape Cod home for decades, and these are constantly building, selling & repeating the cycle.  New high-speed broadband capacity via OpenCape, STEM education programs, a Blue Economy and an active Cape Tech Council are building blocks for the Cape’s future.
