CDL Training - Cape Cod

Commercial Driver's License Training

The Pilot Program:

In November of 2023, the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with CSMS Parker Professionals, has launched a hybrid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B course for four Cape Cod residents.

A year-in-the-making, the CDL Class B Training Pilot Program began on Monday, December 4th and continued through late-January 2024. The program covered 100 hours of training through a combination of self-led online learning, virtual instructor-led classes, and in-person “on-the-road" training at Cape Cod Community College.

In exchange for their flexibility and regular feedback, pilot members had all costs associated with CDL training paid for by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce with the support of sponsors like the American Bus Association. The CDL Training Pilot is also funded by an ARPA Funded Initiative FY’21 Appropriation grant through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and is administered by the Commonwealth Corporation.

More Training in the Future:

The Cape Cod Chamber is perusing further grant and sponsorship funds in order to offer this training at no cost to the trainees for Class A and B CDL in 2024 and 2025. “The program is designed to eliminate the barrier of cost on top of bringing the training so much closer to home,” says Cape Cod Chamber Economic Development Director, Katy Acheson. “Together with grant funds and generous sponsors, we are building a smooth and stable workforce pipeline for Cape Cod industries reliant on CDL holders.”

Another four-person training cohort could launch as early as March 2024. However, the proposed multi-year grant funded training program is not likely to launch until the second half of 2024.
